Frequently asked questions

FirstNet is built specifically for public safety, offering unmatched reliability, security and accountability. It assures first responders’ mission-critical communications are protected with a dedicated network core and always-on priority and preemption across 5G, 4G and their own dedicated Band 14 spectrum. FirstNet is the largest network for public safety – reaching 2.99 million+ square miles of coverage nationwide. That’s 250,000+ square miles more on average than commercial networks and is the only network with deployable assets dedicated to public safety to maintain connectivity in the most challenging environments. Overseen by the federal government, FirstNet is designed to meet public safety’s unique needs and continually evolves based on their feedback. Unlike commercial networks, FirstNet delivers purpose-built solutions focused on helping save lives and supporting critical missions.

Individual first responders: Responders who pay for their own service – like volunteer firefighters, ER doctors and nurses – are crucial to emergency response. That’s why we ensure they are eligible for FirstNet. Learn more about individual job titles and functions that are eligible for FirstNet.

Public safety agencies: FirstNet was designed from the ground up to always put public safety first – from law enforcement to emergency management.

Essential services: Entities like utilities, transportation and healthcare are vital to public safety’s response. That’s why those who support first responders are eligible.

FirstNet proudly serves a wide range of agencies – including law enforcement, fire and rescue and emergency medical responders. Our support also extends to essential sectors such as utilities, military first responders, school safety, healthcare and fleet transportation, ensuring those who protect and serve our communities have the reliable connectivity they need.

An affiliation code is provided by pre-approved FirstNet agencies. If your agency is already a verified FirstNet customer, individual public safety personnel can sign up using their agency’s affiliation code to help expedite the eligibility process. Ask your agency’s admin for the affiliation code and enter the code when requested during the sign-up process.
