Frequently asked questions
Your Fusion questions answered
What is FirstNet Fusion?
FirstNet Fusion is a mission-critical communication platform that connects teams across wireless and LMR networks. Both agencies and individual customers can use it on any device type, on the FirstNet network or in a multi-carrier environment.
What is Fusion Link?
Fusion Link is the only universal MCPTT-to-LMR gateway – enabling real-time, encrypted communication between Fusion MCPTT users and users on virtually any radio system. Fusion Link supports all standard LMR interfaces (ISSI, CSSI and DFSI) and strictly adheres to the 3GPP mission-critical standards for interworking functionality.
Do I need to replace my current land-mobile radios?
No, FirstNet Fusion works with your existing LMR systems and push-to-talk devices – it’s an augmentation for two-way radios to communicate with smart phone users and vice versa – to give your teams better situational awareness and enhanced capabilities than voice-only communication can provide.
How can agencies quickly establish mutual aid communications?
Agency administrators can send and receive mutual aid invitations to establish, expand and maintain shared talkgroups in a matter of minutes.
Once connected, users within the talkgroup - from both agencies - can talk securely until either agency admin deactivates the connection.
How does Fusion work across carriers?
Fusion works across carriers when a customer provisions Fusion licenses on users' devices that have either a FirstNet SIM or a non-FirstNet SIM. Users on any carrier can then communicate through Fusion talkgroups.
Is FirstNet Fusion available for volunteer departments?
Yes, FirstNet Fusion supports individual customers, making it ideal for volunteer-based agencies.
What plans are available for Fusion?
Fusion will be available for both agencies and individual customers – making it accessible to full-time departments, volunteers and support teams alike.
