Frequently asked questions

Your deployable questions answered

FirstNet deployables are mission-critical, rapidly deployable network assets designed to provide seamless communication and reliable connectivity for public safety teams. They offer immediate access to dedicated Band 14 spectrum when and where needed, for critical coverage during disasters, large-scale events or emergency situations.

As the only network built with and for public safety, the deployable connects to nationwide Band 14, spectrum set aside for public safety. This allows FirstNet to go where commercial carriers can’t.

FirstNet deployables are designed for simple, rapid deployment. Power up and connect your critical teams in less than 10 minutes, so you’re ready to communicate and coordinate when every second counts.

FirstNet provides a variety of deployables including SatCOLTs, Cells on Wheels (COWs), Compact Rapid Deployables (CRD), miniCRDs and Flying COWs™. These assets are available nationwide with rapid deployment and expert on-call support.

Contact your FirstNet representative to see how FirstNet Mobile Connectivity Hub and other deployables can empower your agencies’ emergency response. Hundreds of agencies have purchased their own to be prepared during sunny skies and rainy days.

Only FirstNet has a dedicated fleet of 190+ deployable assets for public safety. The assets are available to Agencies on FirstNet at no additional charge for emergencies or planned events. As an added benefit, FirstNet is the only carrier that works with customers to deploy network assets dedicated to public safety for connectivity throughout the country.

Any vehicle equipped with a Class III (3), Class IV (4) or Class V (5) trailer hitch rated for at least 650 pounds of tongue weight. Requires a 2” square hitch receiver to install the FirstNet Mobile Connectivity Hub or CRD hitch adapter that connects the deployable to the vehicle.

The FirstNet Mobile Connectivity Hub, CRD and miniCRD can support up to 64 simultaneous LTE users, using a typical Starlink satellite connection. If the FirstNet Mobile Connectivity Hub  is provided with high-speed ethernet or fiber, it can support up to 600 simultaneous FirstNet users.

Yes, with the guying kit provided for windy weather, deployables will perform in all weather conditions. Although internet speeds can change depending on climate conditions and terrain, the heated and air-conditioned unit has proven to work through wind, rain, sun and snow. The miniCRD is also IP54 rated.

Yes, setup is simple and can be accomplished within 10 minutes. Turning on the deployable requires pushing just a few buttons. Multiple user guides are provided for step-by-step setup, as well as an owner’s manual and inventory sheets for all included components. However, because FirstNet Mobile Connectivity Hub, CRD and miniCRD contains network routers, it is recommended to have an IT specialist on staff become familiar with the equipment for simple troubleshooting and user questions.
